Inter Counties XC

Four of our members had qualified for this years CAU Inter Counties XC at Prestwold Hall near Loughborough.  Three had been selected for county vests through qualifying at the Yorkshire Championships and one through taking part in the British Athletics Cross Challenge series so was running in a Wharfedale Harriers vest.

First race up was the U13 boys.  Here it was Alex Thompson and Sam Smith battling it out.  Alex got off to a great start and slotted in behind the leading two Jaden Kennedy and Fraser Sproul in third place with Sam not far behind in the chasing pack.  Alex kept up the pace to maintain third place all the way to the finish picking up the bronze medal for the main race, but at the same time claiming the title for this years U13 Cross Challenge winner.  Sam finished in 34th place, but being 3rd Cross Challenge finisher then gave him second place in the series on points. Sam was also 2nd counter for the Yorkshire boys team, who picked up 3rd place medal on the day.

Next race for us was the U13 girls.  Here Alice Jones got off to a good start and in the early stages was just behind the leaders.  However as the race progressed she couldn’t keep up so dropped back to finish in 28th place.  However the Yorkshire girls still scored well and finished with Silver medals as a team.

Our final race was the Senior Mens where  James Hall was competing.  With some big names battling it out for glory, James finished in 17th place and 2nd counter for the Yorkshire team but unfortunately they finished just outside the medals.
