West Yorks XC League – Mens Champions 2018

There was everything to play for at the last West Yorks XC League race of 2018.  Lying in 4th place in the table but only 2 points behind the leading teams, there was a strong chance that a win for the Wharfedale Men at the last race could at least put us in with the chance of a medal.   So it was that a concerted effort was made to rally the troops and bring additional runners into the team to bolster our chances.  On a typically mud bath of a course round Cliffe Castle Park thus it was that the final challenge began.   Some set of at a galloping pace but soon found the going tougher than expected.

As it was, we won the race on the day with an exceptionally low score of 135, the next closest team, Wakefield, being on 205.  We were then tied on league points with City of York for 1st place overall, but after a count back of scores  across the races, and helped by that final win, Wharfedale were declared the winning team.  Congratulations go to Ali Burns, Robin Howie, Ethan Hassel, Christian Holmes, Tom Millard, Paul Crabby Crabtree, Adam Stirk, Jonny Bradshaw, and Ted Mason as team counters at the races and also Dave McGuire, Dave Kirkham,, Sam Watson, Chris Jones and Geoff Thompson who also ran.

Individually Ali Burns was 2nd Vet 35 and Christian 2nd Vet 45, whilst Crabby was 3rd Vet 50.
