Yetholm British Championshiup Race, Scotland. Ladies and FV40 ladies team – both 2nd!

Thanks for the following report from Looie:

After a great day taking part in the Wharfedale Half Marathon from Threshfield Rugby Club –  I walked over to Kirsty’s  and then we set off to Yetholm in southern Scotland to take part in the 2nd race in the British Fell Championships. For interest you may like to know that Yetholm is at the end of the Pennine Way which starts in Edale. When we arrived at Yetholm we went  straight to the pub and met Clare, Gill and Caroline who were also running.

The race started at 1pm the next day which was good as it meant there was no need to rush in the morning. At 8 miles (ish) and 3000ft of climb the (medium) race route was not technical at all but had some very steep climbs and descents – and also some very runnable fast sections between the numerous peaks. For me the course was excellent and the weather didn’t let us down!  The 7 Wharfedale ladies who made the trip to Scotland were me, Kirsty, Caroline, Angela, Gill, Rachel and we welcomed newcomer Clare Pearson to the championship races. I have to mention Paul Crabby as he was the only Wharfedale bloke  – so well done for going!

The race was a great battle with the ladies from the other teams but also between the Wharfedale ladies. On this occasion Clare came out on top. Wharfedale ladies were 2nd team (Clare, Gill and myself) and the Wharfedale FV40 team were also 2nd team (Gill, Rachel and Caroline)! The Wharfedale ladies really are up there with the best ladies teams in these tough races – so well done girls!!
