Piers was kind enough to send his report of the day.

Piers Barbers report ………..

It’s 20 years since I did the Gisborough Moors race and having recently
rediscovered my running legs, it was always on my list for this year.

Starting and finishing at Guisborough Rugby Club, the route takes you
steeply up through woods where you emerge onto open moorland and easy
running on wide hardpack tracks and through shoe scuffing heather.

At about half way, you reach Captain Cook’s Monument and that’s your cue
to possibly start picking up the pace a bit. A wide forest track drops
you down to a drinks station at the bottom of a short sharp kick up and
then down again to the base of Roseberry Topping.

On the road traveling north to the race, Roseberry Topping will have
been tempting and mocking you in equal measure, but it’s a short and
non-technical ascent in reality. The drop off it is equally user
friendly as it cuts the contours at 45 degrees rather than 90. Roseberry
behind you and there’s just one more climb to worry about. It comes
almost immediately and is your chance to make a few places on anyone who
overcooked it on Roseberry itself.

The trail now flattens out again on Gisborough Moor and a long tempo
scamper over flag stones, heather and reeds takes you to Highcliff Nab
before you drop sharply down through the woods, retracing your steps to
the finish.

This is more of a trail race than a fell race, but it’s well organised,
well marked, well marshaled and has the usual friendly fell race
atmosphere.

A cracker of a run!
