New trail race – The Fox Inn, Thorner

Abbey Runners are organising a trail race over the May Day Bank Holiday at The Fox Inn, Thorner, LS14 3DX from 11am on Sunday 5th May. They would be grateful for your support at what will be a low key and relaxed event.

The race will be a time trial that can be run individually or in pairs. Entries will be taken on the day from 11am but runners can arrive and start at anytime before 12.30pm. The run is approx 6.3 miles and mainly off-road on public footpaths and tracks. Runners will be guided around the route by written route instructions with the added incentive of a voucher for a drink at the pub afterwards. Entry £5 with £2 voucher given back.

It’s a slightly different format to the usual trail race but they think that our runners will like it. It has proved popular elsewhere in England (a member of their club brought the idea up from Essex with him!) so they hope it will be successful here too. They are  inviting other local running clubs to come and try this event and bring some added competition. As this is the first race of this type they would like to target committee members and runners in our club that like to run off-road to provide them with feedback and spread the word. There is plenty of scope for more races to be organised so please help them to make the first race a success.

There is a registration link on the site, please note this is really just a gauge for likely numbers and wouldn’t prevent extras on the day!

I hope that some of you will be able to support the event.
