Muddy Boots Race Report By Christian Holmes

Christian has sent in his race report from the Mudddy Boot Race whilst he relaxs at the http://pyrenees-haven.com ….Its ok for some !!!!

Its was an early start for me On Sunday, dragging myself out of bed at 7.30am to go to The
Muddy Boots 10k in Ripon. I got to the race 2 hours early and nearly entered the fun run by mistake. I only realised it was the fun run when everyone else at the start line seemed the have a child with them. Having been told by a marshal that the senior race started at 11am and not 10am, as I thought, I went back to the car and fell asleep for half an hour. I woke feeling groggy to the sound of footsteps beating on the pavement outside. I seemed to be on the main warm up strip for the race and some of the local runners where getting quite excited and noisy. I looked at the clock and realised there was only 20mins to go. I then met Adam Drury, fellow Wharfedaler, at the start line who was looking forward to the race.

As the race started I was with the front group for the first half mile or so when it be became apparent that the young lad from Leeds City was in a different class. He seemed to effortlessly speed up and soon accumulated a large lead. After 3 miles in I was starting to feel the pace. The two runners in front were getting away from me and I could hear footsteps behind. Two Ripon runners pasted me. I managed to hold onto the pace of one of them and eventually overtook him and opened a gap across muddy fields only to be caught up on the road in the last half mile.

I finished in 6th position and was disappointed not to have done a little bit better. Adam had a good run off little training and finished in 44th Position
