Keswick Half Marathon – Road – Sunday 5th May

David and Katherine Kirkham took part in this race – Katherine’s report is below – well done guys!

Just short of 600 turned out for this race.  Conditions were perfect for racing, not too warm, cloudy and drizzle/ showers. This race is renowned for its picturesque views and is a very challenging course with many steep climbs through Newlands Valley with nearly 1800ft of ascent. The first 6 and half miles are gruesome as you climb and descend steeply before rejoining Derwent Water, which is a welcoming sight.  Once you have reached Grange (at 8 miles) the race continues along the Borrowdale Road back into Keswick, where cars whizz past close and the run becomes more undulating. The support on the race is always excellent and the marshals did an excellent job.  It is well worth a thought The winner of the race Chris Illman of Cirencester, got course record in 1hr 12mins 14secs and our very own Dave Kirkham came 6th in 1hr 18. Results for Wharfedale Harriers are as follows: Dave kirkham 6th in 1hr 18 Katherine Kirkham 211th in 1hr 50
