Race report by Katherine Kirkham….

A record number of runners and walkers turned out on this very cold and snowy Mothers day morning to fill the Victoria Park in Keighley for the annual Sue Ryder Keighley Bigk 10k.

1037 runners lined up at 9am on the starting line.  Some in fancy dress, some in club vests and others that helped raise £44,000 on the day for Manorlands.

This was to be my comeback race after having my baby daughter, Ruby, 5 months ago.  After all it was my last race when 15 weeks pregnant and surely I would beat that time of 1hr 12mins and that is what I did, I completed the course in 52mins 46, not my fastest time, but a good starting point.

The course was tricky in places, especially going through the allotments and along the bottom of High Field Park, as this was very muddy and hard to run in road shoes.  But as usual the support along the course was amazing and the marshals did a brilliant job to control the traffic and send us in the right direction

Wharfedale had seven runners who took part and some personal bests were achieved.  Dave Kirkham put in a brilliant performance and yet again had a sprint finish to come 2nd, just half a second in front of 3rd, Julian Hood and only 8 secs behind James Mountain from Skipton.
