This year’s Stoop Race saw some great runs for Wharfedale Harriers of all ages. In conditions that were wild to say the least, our runners pulled out all the stops and conquered the mud, wind and water. In the U8 race Nathan Hird was 11th and Mollie Smith was 28th.
In the mad scramble of the mixed U10/12/14/16 race, the Wharfees showed their metal to give some impressive results. Thomas Nelson showed everyone a muddy pair of heels to finish as 1st U14. Close behind him was Will Thompson who was 1st U12, and Alex Thompson recovered from a fall mid-way round to be 3rd U12. Emily Jones ran an excellent race coming in as 1st U12 girl, with sister Alice hot on her heels to be 1st U10 girl. Meanwhile, Sam Smith proved he’s no wimp as he crashed into the finish funnel, literally, as 1st U10 boy.
In the seniors race, our runners battled with sneaker snatcher mud and waist deep bogs to produce some equally strong results. 3 of our men were in the top ten: Jack Smith was 6th, Ted Mason was 7th and Spencer Riley was 10th, giving the Wharfedale men the team prize.
