Coledale Horseshoe

An excellent result for Wharfedale’s Mark Mc Goldrick ( Goldie ) at the Coledale Horseshoe this weekend. Running most of the way with the legendary Simon Booth he has shown he is a force to be reckoned with this year.

Goldies report

What a glorious day in the Lakes on Saturday for the classic Coledale Horseshoe. It was great to be back racing, especially on a day like this.

The race as many of you know is literally straight into the climb for 2.5 miles to the top of Grisedale Pike. I was in good company with Danny Hope & Simon Booth and  seemed to be climbing strongly. Descending off Grisedale we encountered some deep snow sections, then continuing on to checkpoint 2 it was neck and neck with Simon. This is where our route changed and we were to hang left, taking a more direct route down towards the disused mine putting more time between us and  the trailing runners. Then it was a gradual climb up to meet the track up to checkpoint 3, some real leg sapping snow sections on the way up and across to the next summit. The tricky decent followed which leads to the longish fast section back to Barrow. I just managed to overtake Simon again ascending Barrow but his experience and prowess on the descents, saw him once again take the advantage proving just to strong for me. Certainly up there as one of the best Lakes races.
The race was won by in form Carl Bell who just managed to overtake Rob Jebb on the final run in. Plenty of cake & Tea at the finish, a perfect day!! Well done everybody and thanks to all the marshalls & organisers for putting on a great race
There were also some great performances from the other few Wharfedalers that were there to experience a great day in the lakes.
