Sun 14th May 2017 12.00 noon
2 Miles 1558ft : AS ( 3.1k 460m )
A set of Uphill only races from Scabbate Gate, Kettlewell. Varying distances along the main path up to the cairn on Great Whernside
Incorporating FRA Junior championship and Junior Uphill Championship
All races start in the field at the bottom of the fell where Scabbate Gate lane crosses Dowber Gill Beck. The initial ascent is on grass following track and path through the fields uphill to the cottage at Hag Dyke. Thence through the gate to the fell and the terrain changes dramatically. First a rocky scramble over rough ground, followed by a short stretch of peat and bog with then a final steep ascent over rocky ground to the cairn.
Please note the junior start time published in the 2017 FRA handbook was incorrect. Please ensure all your runners know that races start at 12 noon.
Registration from 11am
Registration will be in the start field which is about 800m from the car park, so allow 10-15 minutes or so to walk. Registration for each race will close 10 minutes before the start times shown below.
We have secured a field in the village for parking or there is also a Village car park, but it will be more expensive than the field. As you come into the village, over the first bridge, the Village car park is on your left. Go past the entrance for this and turn right opposite the public toilets, the entrance to the parking field is then immediately on your right between some houses.
Parking will be available from 10am, cost will be £2 per car.
Races U9,U11,U13,U15,U17,U19, Seniors
First race will be U9’s at 12 noon. The races will then proceed in age order with each race starting when all runners from previous race have been accounted for. Seniors will set off, shortly after the U19’s but not before 2.15pm. Presentation for all races will take place after the U19/Senior race.
The earliest each race will start is:
U9 – 12.00noon, U11 – 12.10pm, U13 – 12.25pm, U15 – 12.50pm, U17 – 13.30pm, U19 – 2.15pm
After their race, all runners must return to the bottom of the fell, near the start line and have their number checked off. Failure to do so could lead to disqualification.
Junior Uphill Team Championship
Best 3 male and 3 female runners to count, 6 in total, from U13,U15,U17,U19 age groups. In the event of a tie, the team with the highest placed last counter will win.
Leave the sandwiches and flask at home.
The very talented Wharfedale hotesses with the most will be in charge of our refreshments stall selling home baked cakes along with tea & coffee, water and fizzy drinks.
All runners MUST bring and be prepared to carry a waterproof jacket. It must have taped seams and a permanent attached hood. If yours is not waterproof and the weather on the day requires you to have a waterproof one, you will not be allowed to run. The “florries” that many runners use for night running are NOT waterproof and therefore do not count as such. Other equipment you may be asked to carry are hat, gloves and; older runners (U17 and above) waterproof trousers, whistle.
