Sun 15th May 2022 11.00 am

4 Miles 1558ft : AS    ( 6.2k  460m )

Incorporating FRA Junior Championship and FRA Junior Inter Counties Races

A repeat of our normal September race from Scabbate Gate, Kettlewell but with the addition of a full set of junior races which are part of the 2022 FRA Junior Championship .  All races are open.  Varying distances along the main path  up to the cairn on  Great Whernside. The courses are similar to those used for the 2021 Yorkshire Junior Championship with minor modifications.

Entries:  You can now Pre-Register for these races via this link.   This will save you time on the day as you will then simply pay and collect your number.  Alternatively you will still be able to enter on the day if you forget to pre-register.

All races start in the field at the bottom of the fell where Scabbate Gate lane crosses Dowber Gill Beck. The initial ascent is on grass following track and path through the fields  uphill to the cottage at Hag Dyke.  Thence through the gate to the fell and the terrain changes dramatically. First a rocky scramble over rough ground, followed by a short stretch of peat and bog with then a final steep ascent over rocky ground to the cairn.

Note for courses.

U9 and U11 should follow flagged route up and down.

U13 and U15 should follow flagged route up, may choose their own route when descending.

U17 and U19/Seniors, flags are for guidance, and may choose alternate route ascending and descending

U19/Seniors – 6.2k – 460m

Notes for routes.

U9 and U11 should follow flagged route up and down.

U13 and U15 should follow flagged route up, they may choose their own route when descending.  There are several steeper shortcuts that will be taped off for the younger runners, but will be removed for their race if they wish to take them.

We have added a small loop at the U13 turn, they will veer left of the track to a large gate then turn right down the wall and come back through the small gate.

U15 and above can just go straight ahead through the small gate at this point.

When the U15’s are ascending, there is second very narrow snicket gate, they must go through the gap in the wall just to the left to avoid any runners that might be returning

U17 and U19/Seniors, flags are for guidance, and may choose alternate route ascending and descending

Kit Requirements

All runners MUST bring and be prepared to carry a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves. It must have taped seams and a permanent attached hood.  If yours is not waterproof and the weather on the day requires you to have a waterproof one, you will not be allowed to run.  The “florries” that many runners use for night running are NOT waterproof and therefore do not count as such.

U17, U19 and seniors MUST also bring waterproof trousers as they may be required to carry these..

A final decision on kit requirements will be made on the day.
